The Criminal Court on Thursday held a hearing in the case against Hussain Sunny Umar, of G. Maavani, who faces serious allegations of sexually abusing multiple children.

The Prosecutor General's Office has filed five charges in the Criminal Court against an individual accused of sexually abusing several children.

The charges against Hussain Sunny Umar include three counts of sexual abuse of a minor, one count of obstructing the administration of justice, and one count of providing false information to a government agency.

During the administrative hearing held two weeks ago regarding this case, the state submitted several documents to the court in response to complaints raised concerning the documentation.

The purpose of Thursday's hearing was to deliberate on the relevant documentation.

Furthermore, the prosecution has requested a protective order for the evidence in connection with the newly disclosed documents. This request follows the inclusion of explicit materials among the documents submitted during the latest filing.

Consequently, the judge issued the order as requested by the state.

Following that, the presiding judge established a timeline for the conduct of the trial proceedings.

Details of the charges filed in the case:

The charges filed under Section 3 of the Act on Special Procedures for Perpetrators of Sexual Offences Against Children allege that the defendant intentionally touched the bodies of minors with sexual intent. According to the first charge, the defendant is accused of repeatedly sexually abusing a child in various locations over a period spanning from before the victim turned seven years old until August 2025.

The second charge alleges that he intentionally touched a child aged 10 or 11 with sexual intent, while the third charge involves similar allegations concerning a child aged 9 or 10. Each of the three charges carries a potential prison sentence of between 10 and 14 years.

He has been charged with obstruction of justice for failing to surrender his mobile phone to the police, despite a Criminal Court order. He reportedly claimed that the device had been lost to avoid complying with the court mandate. The standard sentence for this offense is one year, seven months, and six days of imprisonment.

In the case involving the provision of false information to an official authority, Hussain Sunny Umar has been accused of misleading the police regarding the sim card number and type used in a mobile phone allegedly in his possession. The baseline sentence for this charge is four months and 24 days of imprisonment.

The Prosecutor General’s Office has stated that it will seek the maximum legal penalties if the charges are proven. In such an event, the office noted that the defendant would face a minimum prison sentence of 44 years.
