The Goidhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the suspension of a government project to construct a police station on the island, noting that construction materials at the site are deteriorating.
Although President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated this project with a pledge to ensure its rapid progress, all work has now come to a complete standstill.
According to information shared by the Goidhoo Council with RaajjeTV, the current administration awarded this project to Fenaka Corporation in 2025. However, work has come to a standstill after the initial commencement, and the site designated for the building currently remains vacant.
Regarding the current status of the project, the council noted that only a few pillars are visible at the site. Furthermore, construction materials such as gravel and sand brought to the island have been left exposed without any protection, leading to their gradual deterioration.
The Goidhoo Council has stated that this project is vital for the safety and security of the island. However, the council noted that while the government has provided assurances that the project would proceed at a swift pace, the reality on the ground suggests that the work has been neglected.
The suspension of this project has also sparked significant concern among the island's residents.
