B. Goidhoo School Staff Room Project: Current administration fails to progress beyond roofing on building completed under previous government

The Goidhoo Island Council has expressed concern over the stalled construction of a new staff room at the local school, a project initiated by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s administration to address the space constraints faced by teachers.

Expressing concern over the matter, Goidhoo Council Member Mohamed Nafiz stated in an interview with RaajjeTV that the construction of the school staff room was a project initiated during the final year of President Solih’s administration and had been progressing at a rapid pace. He noted that the structural masonry work had already been completed by the time the previous government's term ended.

However, Nafiz stated that following the change of administration, the project was withdrawn from the contractor and handed over to Fenaka Corporation without any official notification to the council. He further noted that the project has remained stalled since then.

I have been informed that while the roofing work was nearing completion, the project stalled due to an issue involving four missing sheets of roofing tin that Fenaka has yet to receive.

Furthermore, Nafiz expressed concern that since the beginning of this administration, no significant progress has been made on the project in three years, beyond the installation of roofing sheets.

Highlighting that the Goidhoo School staff room is a vital facility for the institution, Nafiz noted that teachers are currently working out of a small classroom where three to four staff members are often forced to share a single desk.

Furthermore, Nafiz called on the government to resume stalled projects and ensure their completion at an accelerated pace.
