A man has been arrested in R. Angolhitheemu for breaking into a residence, sexually assaulting an elderly woman, and threatening to kill her.
Police have informed the media that a 44-year-old Maldivian man has been arrested in connection with this case.
Police received the report of this incident at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Friday night, September 27, 2026. According to the police, a 72-year-old Maldivian woman was sexually assaulted after an individual broke into a residence in Angolhitheemu. In addition to the sexual assault, police further disclosed that the victim was subjected to death threats and intimidation during the attack.
The elderly woman who fell victim to this brutal assault received medical treatment at the Angolhitheemu Health Center. She has since been discharged following her treatment at the facility. However, the police have not disclosed specific details regarding the extent of her injuries.
A suspect was taken into custody in connection with the case at approximately 9:57 p.m. on Saturday, September 28. Police confirmed that the arrest was made under a court order.
