Government failing to match progress of councils receiving five percent budget allocation: Azim

Highlighting a lack of government sincerity, Azim noted that citizens and businesses are facing significant losses and further asserted that the administration's inconsistent policies are leaving the public in a state of vulnerability and neglect.

Male' City Mayor Adam Azim has stated that while the current administration receives 95 percent of the national budget, it is failing to deliver results comparable to the work achieved by local councils with their five percent allocation.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Fala Surukhee" program, Mayor Azim stated that the current administration has failed to deliver any meaningful results. He further noted that, in addition to this lack of progress, the government’s only consistent action has been to deflect blame onto others.
He stated that there are currently no significant projects underway in any island, noting that the minor works being carried out are funded solely by the five percent budget allocation managed by local councils. He further remarked that it is regrettable that the government has failed to initiate any work despite having control over the remaining 95 percent of the national budget.
Mayor Azim highlighted that the council is currently undertaking numerous projects using the budget allocated to Male' City alone. However, he stated that, in reality, there is a complete lack of sincerity on the part of the government.
Azim stated that this administration’s sole focus is wasteful spending, the consequences of which are being borne entirely by ordinary Maldivian citizens and local businesses. The Mayor further noted that the government’s flawed policies are resulting in increased hardship and vulnerability for the public.
Azim further stated that the government's only actions involve abruptly formulating new policies and squandering public funds.
The government maintains that development projects are ongoing and that the budget is being utilized to meet the needs of the people. However, the administration’s policies and initiatives are facing widespread criticism from various quarters. Residents across several islands have also voiced their concerns, as numerous local projects have currently come to a standstill.
