MP Ibrahim submits letter to Speaker seeking investigation and action over two vessels crashing into Sinamale' Bridge

Mohamed Ibrahim, the Member of Parliament for the North Galolhu constituency, has formally requested Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla to investigate and take action regarding the two vessels that collided with the Sinamale' Bridge.
In a letter submitted by MP Ibrahim, he highlighted that the incident involving two vessels drifting and colliding with the Sinamale' Bridge on the night of September 11 raises serious questions and concerns regarding the national security and safety of the Maldives. Consequently, he requested that the relevant government authorities be summoned before the Parliament's Committee on National Security Services to provide clarification on the matter.
Member Ibrahim has requested clarification regarding reports that two vessels entered Maldivian waters on April 26 without authorization from any government agency. Noting that the vessels were only detected by relevant authorities on May 3, the member sought to identify the causes of this security breach, determine which parties were negligent, and confirm whether any disciplinary actions have been taken against them.
Furthermore, Member Ibrahim requested clarification on why no solution has been reached despite the crews of both vessels being stranded for five months and voicing their concerns on social media. He also inquired whether the relevant authorities have made any efforts to assess the safety conditions of the vessels.
Furthermore, he requested clarification on whether the Sinamale' Bridge is adequately insured and the extent to which arrangements are in place to seek compensation for damages resulting from this incident.
The incident occurred on Thursday night during heavy rainfall in Male', when a fuel barge and a tugboat drifted and collided with a pillar of the Sinamale' Bridge. Reports indicate that the two vessels drifted after their anchors broke loose during a powerful squall that hit the Male' area during the storm.
