Member of Parliament Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu) has stated that police have failed to provide a response 24 hours after a formal complaint was lodged regarding allegations that the ruling PNC funded a plot to attack him and RaajjeTV’s Broadcast Visual Director, Amir Saleem.
Speaking at a press conference held by the MDP Parliamentary Group, MP Ibrahim stated that a formal letter was submitted to the police on Wednesday as soon as the information was received. He noted that although 24 hours have since passed, the police have yet to provide a response.
The Member highlighted that when a representative of the Parliament—one of the three branches of state—receives a death threat and fails to get a response after reporting it, it raises serious questions about whether the grievances of ordinary citizens are being addressed at all.
"We submitted a formal letter to the police on Wednesday after receiving that information. It has now been nearly 24 hours, yet we have received no response from them. We are talking about a death threat issued against a Member of Parliament—a representative of one of the powers of the state—and yet there is no reply to the report. If this is the situation, it raises serious questions about whether the complaints of ordinary citizens are being addressed at all."Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu)
Regarding this issue, MP Ibrahim stated that neither the government nor state institutions are providing the necessary cooperation required by the Parliament.
Amidst circulating allegations that the ruling PNC has bribed individuals to attack Members of Parliament, RaajjeTV has also called for this to be investigated as a matter of extreme gravity.
