PG Office requested to file charges against Thinadhoo City Mayor over population data dispute

Police have requested the Prosecutor General’s Office to press charges against the Mayor of Thinadhoo City, Saud Ali, regarding an issue involving the city's population data.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has confirmed that it accepted a case on August 19 involving allegations that the GDh. Thinadhoo Island Council submitted falsified population data to relevant state authorities in its bid to secure city status for the island.
The Prosecutor General's Office has confirmed that it is currently reviewing the case against Thinadhoo City Mayor Saud Ali to determine whether to proceed with formal charges. The office stated that the case has been accepted and is undergoing a thorough legal evaluation before a final decision is made.
In response to the matter, Thinadhoo City Mayor Saud stated that the move was politically motivated.
A constitutional case has been filed with the High Court seeking to revoke Thinadhoo’s city status, alleging that the previous administration secured the designation by misrepresenting population figures.
Furthermore, the Member of Parliament for Thinadhoo North, Saudulla Hilmy, has submitted the matter to the People’s Majlis for review, contending that the granting of city status to Thinadhoo was in violation of the Decentralization Act.
