MP Ibrahim requests investigation into complaints regarding medicine shortages at Guraidhoo Special Needs Centre

While calling for an urgent resolution to the current crisis, the MP highlighted that concerns regarding nationwide difficulties in procuring medicine have been previously submitted to the Parliament.

Member of Parliament for North Galolhu, Mohamed Ibrahim (Kudu), has sent a formal letter to Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim seeking clarification following reports that essential medication has run out for patients at the Home for People with Special Needs in K. Guraidhoo.
In a letter submitted by MP Ibrahim, it was noted that families of patients at the Home for People with Special Needs in K. Guraidhoo have raised concerns regarding the unavailability of essential medication required for those under the facility's care.
In addition to psychiatric medications, several other essential drugs have run out. Despite bringing this matter to the attention of the relevant authorities at the Ministry, there has been no response to the issue.
The member emphasized that this is a critical issue requiring immediate resolution and called for a formal inquiry into how the matter transpired.
MP Ibrahim has previously submitted emergency motions to Parliament regarding medication shortages. Specifically, amid the worsening shortage of medication for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the member had also requested that the State Pharmaceutical and Medical Supply Corporation Limited and the Maldives Food and Drug Authority (MFDA) be summoned to Parliament for questioning.
Furthermore, the member noted that the lives of many individuals are being endangered due to the unavailability of essential medicines. To bring this matter to the government's attention, the member had previously submitted an emergency motion for debate in Parliament. However, the chair decided to reject the emergency motion.
