RaajjeTV files RTI to seek details of 590 projects President claimed were completed and delivered by Independence Day!

RaajjeTV has submitted a Right to Information (RTI) request seeking comprehensive and itemized details of the 590 projects President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu claims to have completed and delivered across various sectors during his first year in office.

Speaking at the Independence Day ceremony held on July 26, 2026, the President highlighted the government's developmental achievements, stating that 590 projects across various sectors have been completed and delivered within the two years and eight months since he took office. The President noted that in comparison to the same period during the previous two administrations, the MDP government completed 285 projects, while the preceding administration of President Yameen completed 321 projects within the first two years and eight months. President Muizzu emphasized that his administration intends to let "results" speak for its performance.

In this regard, the Right to Information (RTI) request submitted by RaajjeTV primarily seeks to clarify whether the 590 projects mentioned by the President were newly initiated and completed since this administration took office, or if they were projects started by previous governments that had stalled or were nearing completion before being finalized by the current administration. Specifically, the request asks for a breakdown of how many projects were initiated and completed solely under the policies of the current government, the total expenditure involved, and the specific islands and regions where these projects were implemented.

Furthermore, a Right to Information (RTI) request has been filed to identify the specific sectors to which these 590 projects belong. RaajjeTV has requested that the information be provided within the legally mandated timeframe, seeking a detailed breakdown of completed projects across various sectors—including harbor construction, land reclamation, water and sewerage systems, and education and healthcare initiatives—along with a comprehensive list of projects conducted on each individual island.

It is noteworthy that this administration marks the completion of even the smallest projects with grand celebrations. Observers point out that the government holds elaborate ceremonies for minor achievements, such as the redevelopment of a single street or the installation of a digital clock at a running track. Consequently, many are questioning the President’s claim of 590 completed projects, arguing that if such a figure were accurate, the administration would have held 590 separate ceremonies by now.

Furthermore, several critics have raised serious allegations, claiming that the figures cited by the President are baseless. They argue that the government is misleading the public, asserting that it is impossible to complete 590 projects within two years and eight months, especially when the current administration is struggling to finish projects initiated by the previous government.

RaajjeTV submitted this Right to Information (RTI) request after visiting numerous islands across the country to monitor the progress of ongoing development projects. The station noted that while local councils and residents in nearly every island expressed concerns over the complete standstill of these initiatives, the President claimed a significant number of projects had been completed. RaajjeTV highlighted that despite these claims, no details regarding the completed projects are available or accessible from any government authority.
