While 31 students are currently receiving medical treatment across various hospitals, reports indicate that none of the children are in serious condition.
Seven children are currently receiving medical treatment at Addu Equatorial Hospital.
A large number of students participating in a basic cadet camp at Feydhoo School in Addu City have begun receiving medical treatment following an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea.
A parent who spoke to RaajjeMV on Monday stated that a significant number of students are suspected to have suffered from food poisoning during the camp. The source further noted that the incident occurred early Monday morning.
Reports indicate that 12 children are currently admitted for treatment at the Feydhoo Health Centre and another 12 at the Maradhoo Health Centre due to an outbreak of vomiting and diarrhea. Additionally, seven children are receiving medical care at Addu Equatorial Hospital.
The students receiving treatment are in grades 7 and 8, and reports indicate that none of them are in serious condition.
Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has stated that the children's conditions are gradually improving, noting that those under treatment are exhibiting similar symptoms. According to the hospital, these symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. However, the hospital has not yet disclosed the exact cause of the illness.
Furthermore, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) stated on X that it is deeply concerned by the food poisoning incident at the Addu City Basic Cadet Camp, which resulted in several students being hospitalized in serious condition. The Commission also confirmed that it is currently monitoring the situation.
Emphasizing that the incident will be investigated as a high-priority matter, the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) stated that relevant authorities must restructure and manage their operations to ensure such incidents do not recur.
Camps are currently being conducted in all government schools across the Maldives. However, many parents are expressing grave concern, stating that the recurring nature of such incidents, however infrequent, is unacceptable and remains a significant issue.
