President Muizzu's administration is obstructing initiatives that would generate direct income for the citizens: MP Nazil

MP Nazil has expressed concern over the rising dollar rate, which has surged past MVR 21 on the black market despite President Muizzu’s pledge to stabilize the currency. The lawmaker further accused the government of obstructing the growth of the guesthouse industry in Addu City by halting the "Savahili Project," warning that such decisions will negatively impact the personal income and livelihoods of ordinary citizens.

Ibrahim Nazil, the Member of Parliament for the South Hithadhoo constituency, has stated that efforts are being made to obstruct the government's initiatives aimed at increasing the personal income of ordinary citizens, noting that this interference is clearly visible in Addu City.

Speaking on RaajjeTV regarding the country's economic situation, MP Nazil stated that the value of the dollar could be stabilized, noting that President Muizzu assumed office with a pledge to lower the exchange rate. However, the MP highlighted that citizens are currently forced to pay more than 21 Rufiyaa per dollar.

Highlighting that the actual value of the dollar stands at MVR 12.85, with an upper ceiling of MVR 15.42, MP Nazil noted that there has been no visible progress from the government-established Development Bank to date. Furthermore, he stated that the current administration is obstructing all avenues through which citizens can earn personal income.

MP Nazil stated that the government has obstructed the guesthouse industry in Addu City. He noted that once the Addu City Council began selling bid documents to attract investors for the "Savahili Project," the President abruptly exercised his executive powers to seize the land for the central government.

The development of Addu City’s guesthouse industry is currently facing significant setbacks. A substantial area in Feydhoo is being developed for guesthouses, and according to the information I have received, approximately 250 rooms are expected to be completed within the coming year. The Savahili project stands as a vital component of this progress. Its completion would greatly facilitate the expansion of the guesthouse business across all interconnected islands of Addu City, making it significantly easier to market the destination and sustain the local economy. However, we are now hearing reports that Equator Village may be coming to a standstill. If Equator Village ceases operations, it will inevitably lead to the collapse of Addu’s guesthouse industry, effectively halting the Savahili project along with it.

Furthermore, MP Nazil stated that the government must clarify the intentions behind such decisions and identify whose influence is driving them. He also described the move as a significant setback to the economic development efforts of the people of Addu.
