Ex-President Yameen launches scathing verbal attack on ACC and MPS amid allegations of illicit distribution of lagoons, reefs, and land

Former President Abdulla Yameen has strongly criticized the Maldives Police Service and the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for failing to initiate investigations into the Muizzu administration's distribution of the country's lagoons, reefs, and land. He condemned both institutions for their lack of proactive action in looking into these matters.

During the most recent gathering held by the PNF, Yameen, who was seated in the audience, leveled heavy criticism against the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Maldives Police Service. Yameen asserted that these institutions are failing to take the initiative in investigating the corruption and criminal activities currently prevailing in the country.

Accusing President Muizzu of engaging in corruption, Yameen stated that this administration lacks any shred of sincerity, noting that the only news heard today is the distribution of lagoons, reefs, and land.

Yameen further asserted that corruption has become rampant across all branches of the state. He stated that rather than focusing on national development, the current administration's leadership is intent on clinging to power and ensuring that a specific group of individuals and their associates maintain their grip on influence and wealth.

Furthermore, Yameen stated that the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is an independent institution mandated by law to investigate cases on its own initiative and submit them for prosecution. However, he expressed significant dissatisfaction, noting that the commission currently appears to be failing to look into any such matters.

"I also led a government from 2013 to 2018 as President. During that time, no land in Malé was distributed to individuals, nor was any land partitioned and handed out to my relatives or friends. However, today, that is all we hear about. Today, we hear nothing else. We are constantly hearing such reports. Lagoons and reefs have been given away for free. Therefore, if these issues are never addressed in the Maldives, it is for this reason that I hold such deep dissatisfaction with the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)."

Furthermore, Yameen stated that the police should not have to wait for instructions from a specific party to investigate criminal matters. He questioned why no action has been taken despite all the details being readily available.

Furthermore, Yameen stated that all state institutions in the Maldives have failed, emphasizing the importance of prevention over cure to ensure such lapses do not occur. He added that these institutions must be held accountable for failing to fulfill their responsibilities and for allowing corruption to take root.
