None of Muizzu’s 590 Completed Projects Include Kudahuvadhoo, Says Council President

Despite President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s assertion that 590 development projects have been completed across the Maldives, the President of the Kudahuvadhoo Island Council, Mohamed Saleem, has stated that not a single project from their island is included in that count.

Speaking on Saturday's 'Fashaairu' program, Saleem highlighted the Kudahuvadhoo road construction project, noting that no further progress has been made since the initial excavation. He added that it remains unclear when the asphalt laying process will commence.

This road development project was initiated during the previous administration and has continued into the current government's term. However, to this day, no significant progress has been made. The roads have been left in a state of disarray, with surfaces excavated and sand piles left behind. As of now, no asphalt has been laid. The only visible sign of work is a single area where some gravel has been scattered and left unattended.

Furthermore, Saleem noted that the harbor construction project, which had been progressing rapidly during the council election period, has now come to a standstill, with no work carried out in recent days. He added that the efforts to provide water, sewerage, and electricity services to the island's reclaimed land are in a similarly poor state, expressing doubt that these projects will be completed anytime soon.

Regarding the island's hospital project, Saleem stated that although President Muizzu had pledged to complete the facility within 18 months, no construction work has progressed beyond the installation of a perimeter fence, even as the deadline approaches on August 24.

Furthermore, Saleem noted that although an agreement was signed with MPL to develop a commercial port and a bonded warehouse for logistics in Kudahuvadhoo, there is no visible progress on either project to date.

Saleem stated that while several government projects initiated in Kudahuvadhoo remain unfinished, there is currently not a single completed project on the island.

The Kudahuvadhoo Council President’s remarks come in the wake of President Muizzu’s address during the Independence Day ceremony on July 26, 2026. In his speech, the President highlighted that 590 projects across various sectors have been completed and handed over to the public within the past two years and eight months.
