The Meemu Atoll Mulah Island Council has expressed significant public concern over the lack of satisfactory progress on the government's project to develop a 30-bed hospital on the island.
The construction of a new hospital in Mulah is a presidential pledge of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Regarding the project, the Mulah Island Council informed RaajjeTV that the hospital's foundation stone was laid by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu during an official visit to the island last September. However, the Council noted that residents are deeply disillusioned, as there has been no visible progress on the physical construction of the facility since the foundation stone was laid.
Mulah is the most populous island in Meemu Atoll. It also sees a proportionately high number of patients seeking medical consultations and healthcare services. The Island Council stated that the current health center faces significant challenges in providing adequate services. Consequently, the swift completion of the new hospital remains a primary hope for the entire community.
The council further emphasized that this project is vital for strengthening the island's healthcare system. Consequently, both the council and the local community are calling on the government to end the current deadlock and expedite the physical works of the hospital at a swift pace.
