Meemu Atoll is a fishing hub, but entire atoll's economy has faced a downturn under this administration: Ihusan
MDP National Council member Ihusan stated that fishing families have fallen into severe hardship due to the government's failure to fulfill its promises to the industry. He highlighted that the skyrocketing cost of fuel and a lack of government support for the fisheries sector have led to a significant economic downturn in the atolls. Furthermore, Ihusan noted that there is little hope for a resolution to these challenges, as the administration has failed to honor its pledge to maintain stable floor prices for fish.

Mohamed Ihusan, a member of the MDP National Congress for the region, stated that Meemu Atoll is a fishing-dependent community and that the entire atoll's economy has faced a significant downturn under the current administration.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunama" program, Ihusan stated that Meemu Atoll is home to a significant fishing population; however, under the current administration, fishing families have faced severe hardship and neglect.
Noting that many citizens initially believed this administration would bring positive changes for the fishing community, Ihusan stated that, contrary to those expectations, fishermen are now facing severe hardships.
He noted that fuel shortages and skyrocketing prices have become significant challenges, further alleging a complete lack of support and assistance from the government toward the fishing community. He further stated that many fishermen are now unable to go out to sea, while those who do manage to go find it impossible to make ends meet.
Furthermore, Ihusan stated that the fishing industry is failing to progress and noted that, considering the population of the three islands within the Mulaku constituency, many residents are facing financial hardships. He added that the economies of the atolls, in particular, have experienced a significant downturn.
Meemu Atoll is home to a significant fishing community. Consequently, the residents of the atoll initially felt a profound sense of reassurance regarding the fisheries sector. This was due to the pledge made that the price of fish would not be allowed to fall below 20 Rufiyaa per kilogram after assuming office. This specific commitment was reiterated in Dhiggaru, particularly in the lead-up to the parliamentary elections, providing great hope to many across the atoll. However, to this day, there has been no progress toward fulfilling these promises. As a result, the fishing community has been left in a state of severe hardship and vulnerability.MDP National Council Member Mohamed Ihusan
