Nilandhoo. The council warned that moving the project would be a significant blow to the local fishing industry, while residents continue to urge the government to proceed with the development in its original location without further delay.

The M. Mulah Island Council has expressed concern over the suspension of a 500-metric-ton cold storage project, which was initiated by the administration of former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to provide essential services to fishermen.
This project was a significant initiative undertaken by MTCC, commissioned during the previous MDP administration.
The Mulah Island Council informed RaajjeTV that the construction of the jetty, which was dredged to accommodate large vessels under this project, was nearly complete when the administration changed. However, the Council noted that since the change in government, all further work required for the fish canning and processing facilities has come to a complete standstill.
The council stated that they have not received a satisfactory response from the Ministry of Fisheries regarding the suspension of the project. According to the council, the Ministry informed them that the project is now slated to proceed in F. Nilandhoo instead. The council further noted that the Ministry identified Nilandhoo as a designated hub for industrial activities.
The local council has noted that no practical progress has been made on the Mulah Cold Storage project since the current administration took office, aside from clearing the designated land. According to the previously established timeline, the project was scheduled for full completion and commissioning by the end of 2026.
The suspension of a project aimed at establishing a fish processing facility in Mulah—a prominent fishing community—and reports of its potential relocation have sparked significant concern among local residents and fishermen. The facility was intended to provide a convenient solution for fishermen across the atoll to weigh and sell their catch. While the people of Mulah had hoped the completion of this project would bring a major economic boost to the entire atoll, those expectations are now fading as the work remains stalled.
