The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) is facing serious public allegations regarding its taxi service, with customers claiming that drivers are operating in violation of established regulations.
To access MTCC’s "Male Taxi Line" service, customers must book through the mobile application, the MTL web app, or by calling the hotline at 1655. Additionally, a system has been established to facilitate online payments for the service.
However, the issue of MTCC taxis operating in violation of established regulations has recently gained significant public attention following a social media post by a member of the public.
The post, which included images of the taxi and its driver, alleges that although MTCC taxis are not authorized to pick up passengers hailing them from the street, they are frequently stopping for foreigners and tourists. Many have further claimed that drivers are charging these tourists in US dollars for such trips.
If my information is correct, these taxis do not typically pick up passengers hailing them from the roadside. However, they seem to make an exception and pull over whenever a tourist signals for a ride.A social media post by an individual has stated.
