The Member of Parliament for the Kendhoo constituency, Mauroof Zakir, has stated that the current administration views workers as mere disposable tools and treats them accordingly.

During Wednesday's parliamentary sitting, lawmakers debated a resolution introduced by MP Mauroof regarding the dismissal of state-owned enterprise (SOE) employees. The resolution alleges that the government is using cost-cutting measures and workforce streamlining as a pretext to carry out politically motivated terminations.

Debating the resolution, the member stated that the current administration is dismissing employees without any established procedures or justification, asserting that such actions will not be tolerated. Furthermore, the member emphasized that the MDP stands ready to advocate for workers' rights and will not accept the ongoing violations against the workforce.

In what era does this government think we are living, to be treating workers as mere commodities or disposable goods? This is the 21st century. They treat employees like objects—hiring them when convenient, firing them at will, and rehiring them the next day. They even go as far as calling parents to intimidate them, threatening to terminate their children's employment over their involvement in political activities.

The member stated that the primary priority for workers within companies should be the formation of unions. He emphasized that employees in state-owned enterprises must step forward to establish unions and organize themselves. Furthermore, he noted that these structures must be strengthened to a level where neither the government nor company executives can take arbitrary action against the workforce.

Emphasizing that all workers must unite and reclaim their right to strike, Mauroof stated that by exercising this power, employees could effectively bring company operations to a standstill. He noted that utilities such as Fenaka and STELCO, as well as MPL, could be shut down, asserting that no employer would dare terminate a worker under such circumstances. The member further highlighted that this is a standard practice globally. Consequently, he repeatedly called upon workers to stand up in solidarity to protect one another's rights.
