The Deputy Minister of Fisheries, Mohamed Yaseen, has been dismissed from his post following allegations of involvement in a multi-million rufiyaa scam. He is accused of defrauding numerous individuals by falsely promising to secure land plots and flats for them.
Yaseen was dismissed from his position following a suspension over serious allegations of embezzlement. Government spokesperson Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundhu) confirmed the suspension to RaajjeMV.
In response to the incident, the government spokesperson told RaajjeMV that the administration maintains a "zero tolerance" policy toward corruption and embezzlement, asserting that firm action will be taken against anyone involved in such activities without hesitation.
According to reports, Yaseen allegedly defrauded numerous individuals by claiming he could secure flats and land plots issued by the current administration. Media outlets have reported that he gained the victims' trust by drafting fraudulent agreements related to these properties, ultimately swindling nearly eight million MVR from various people.
As this case is suspected to involve a significant act of corruption carried out by a high-ranking government official using their influence, RaajjeMV has reached out to the police to inquire whether relevant authorities are investigating the matter. However, the police have yet to provide a response.
This issue has emerged at a time of significant public concern regarding the government's housing projects. Serious allegations have surfaced suggesting that various irregularities are being committed to award land plots and flats to specific individuals favored by the government.
