No choice but to impeach President Muizzu: Yameen
Former President Yameen has harshly criticized President Muizzu’s administration, alleging that corruption has surged and development projects have come to a standstill under his leadership. Accusing the President of consolidating power unconstitutionally and leading an authoritarian regime, Yameen asserted that removing President Muizzu from office is now the only viable solution. Furthermore, he expressed deep concern over the failure of state institutions and members of Parliament to hold the government accountable for its actions.

Former President Abdulla Yameen has stated that there is no choice left but to impeach President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Speaking from the audience at a rally held Sunday night by his party, the People’s National Front (PNF), former Yameen alleged that development projects have come to a standstill under President Muizzu’s administration, while corruption has reached unprecedented levels. Yameen further claimed that the government has abolished the National Tender Board to facilitate this rise in corruption when awarding development contracts.
Noting that development projects are currently only awarded to those who find favor with President Muizzu, Yameen stated that the President is disregarding the Constitution, dismantling all principles of governance, and presiding over an uncivilized and corrupt administration. He further asserted that, given the current situation, there is no alternative but to impeach President Muizzu.
Despite the gravity of the situation, Members of Parliament remain indifferent. Similarly, judges in our courts are turning a blind eye. The Constitution was framed with a specific distribution of power—balancing the authority of the President, the people, and state institutions—under a clear set of principles. These mechanisms were designed to enforce the law and provide oversight. Yet, all of this has been disregarded as he attempts to consolidate all power into his own hands. It is truly a tragedy. Therefore, I must say to the citizens that we have reached a point where there is no alternative but for him to resign and go home, or to be impeached. Impeachment is the only way forward. As long as he remains in office, I see no benefit for the people. He has tainted the entire system and thrown our constitutional order into absolute chaos.Former President Abdulla Yameen
Yameen stated that it is human nature for leaders to become oppressive once they acquire power and authority.
Consequently, Yameen asserted that President Muizzu is also becoming authoritarian and prioritizing oppression. He further stated that as a result, the nation is regressing and the public is suffering.
Former President Yameen has called for the impeachment of President Muizzu, despite having been one of the key leaders who campaigned most vigorously to bring him to power.
