Government is dismantling banking system by exerting total control over its operations: Ghafoor
Hanimaadhoo MP Abdul Ghafoor Moosa has accused the government of interfering in bank operations and compromising the independence of financial institutions. He noted that despite coming to power with promises of prosperity, the administration has failed to provide basic services as the national economy continues to decline. Furthermore, Ghafoor highlighted widespread public disillusionment caused by government policies and a lack of transparency regarding state revenue.

Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, the Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency, has accused the current administration of dismantling the nation's banking system through excessive and direct interference.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s 'TV Talk' program, Ghafoor launched a scathing critique of the current administration. He stated that while the public voted this government into power with the expectation of progress and prosperity, those promises remain unfulfilled today.
Ghafoor stated that during a transition between administrations, the focus must remain on striving toward providing good governance for the people. He noted that this has always been the established practice. According to Ghafoor, the public expressed dissatisfaction with certain aspects of the MDP administration and voted to bring President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s government to power because they desired improvements across all sectors compared to the previous leadership.
Noting that the current administration came to power on the back of such pledges, the member stated that efforts must be made to bring about positive changes in line with those promises. While the citizens of this country desire to see progress, prosperity, and ease restored day by day, what is being witnessed today is a significant leap backward.
"They are constantly putting on a performance, claiming that dollars will be available and that TT transfers can be sent as desired. However, no previous administration has ever officially mandated specific limits for credit cards, debit cards, or medical travel allowances. Nor have they dictated a 25 percent allocation for TT transfers. These are not matters for the government to dictate. Banks are independent entities that operate according to their own business models. Yet, this administration is aggressively interfering, dismantling and destroying these institutions in the process."Abdul Ghafoor Moosa, Member of Parliament for the Hanimaadhoo constituency.
Ghafoor sharply criticized the government's policies, noting that nothing in the country is functioning properly today. He further stated that the public is currently in a state of profound despair.
Furthermore, the member stated that the current status of state revenue remains unclear and that the government has significantly failed to provide even the most basic services to the public, while remaining completely unaccountable. The member further asserted that the administration’s actions are not driven by the best interests of the citizens, noting that this is evident from the recent changes brought to the prices of cigarettes and tobacco products.
