Court orders 90-day closure of Hithadhoo residence used as drug den
The Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has ordered the closure of a residence known as "Milo City" in Addu City for 90 days following reports of large-scale drug trafficking and its association with violent crime and theft. The court issued the order citing significant risks to public safety, marking the second time such a premises has been shuttered in the district under the Drug Act.

The Hithadhoo Magistrate Court has ordered the closure of a residence in Addu City for a period of 90 days, following allegations that the premises were being used as a drug den.
According to the police, the order has been issued to shut down "Milo City" house in Hithadhoo. Issued under the Narcotics Act, the closure order will remain in effect for a period of 90 days, commencing July 1, 2026.
According to the police, this is the second order issued by the Hithadhoo Magistrate Court to shut down a facility providing drug-related services.
Police stated that the closure order for the premises was issued because it was being used as a service point for drug consumption. Authorities further noted that the location was being used to supply narcotics, as well as the tools and equipment required for drug administration, to users.
The court order stated that drug use at the premises has been identified as a threat to public safety and a significant risk to the community.
Furthermore, it has been noted that large-scale drug trafficking was being conducted on the premises. According to information shared by the police, the house and its surrounding area were also being used by groups to carry out criminal activities, including gang violence, kidnappings, and theft.
With the drug crisis extensively widespread across the Maldives, the legal powers granted to address this issue include the authority to shut down premises used for the consumption of illicit substances.
