Waheed criticizes delay in opening Dhidhdhoo Junior College
Former Member of Parliament for Dhiddhoo, Abdulla Waheed, has expressed concern over the prolonged suspension of the Junior College project in Ha. Dhiddhoo under the current administration, despite a significant portion of the construction being completed during the previous government. Although the facility—designed with modern amenities to specialize in food processing and vocational training—was scheduled to begin enrollment in 2024, the ongoing delays as the administration nears its second year are seen as a major setback in developing a highly educated and skilled generation.

Former Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency, Abdulla Waheed, has expressed deep concern over the government's failure to inaugurate and commence classes at the Dhidhdhoo Junior College, despite the current administration entering its second year. He noted that a significant portion of the project's construction had already been completed during the previous government.
The previous administration under President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih had stated that if the construction of the Dhidhdhoo Junior College had proceeded according to schedule, the facility would have been completed and operational by 2023. However, following the change in government, work on the project has come to a standstill.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Vaudhunaama" program regarding the college, the former Member of Parliament for the constituency, Waheed, stated that although a significant percentage of the project had already been completed, work has come to a standstill under President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s administration. He further noted that it is deeply regrettable that classes have yet to commence at the college, especially as the current administration approaches its third year in office.
To date, none of the ongoing projects in Dhidhdhoo are progressing at the required pace. In particular, the development of the Junior College—a key pledge aimed at building a highly educated generation—has stalled. Despite the project having commenced and only a small portion of the work remaining, it has yet to be completed even after two to three years.Abdulla Waheed, the former Member of Parliament for the Dhidhdhoo constituency.
Upon completion, the Dhidhdhoo Junior College will feature specialized laboratories and workshops designed for its core curriculum, alongside a multi-purpose workshop, classrooms, and an ICT laboratory. The facility will also include a dedicated administrative wing, a staff room, and a student services area. Additionally, the campus will be equipped with an auditorium, meeting rooms, study areas, and a library.
The Dhidhdhoo Junior College is specifically designed to conduct various levels of courses in the field of food processing. In addition to these programs, the Ministry of Higher Education has previously stated that the institute will also offer a variety of other vocational training courses.
