President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has returned to Male' after concluding an unofficial visit to Singapore.
He arrived in Male' sometime on Saturday.
The government has clarified that President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s recent visit to Singapore is a private trip to spend time with his family. Following rumors that the trip was intended for a meeting with the Deputy Speaker of the People’s Majlis, Ahmed Nazim, the government's Chief Spokesperson, Mohamed Hussain Shareef (Mundu), dismissed these claims, stating that the visit was not for any such purpose.
The People’s National Congress (PNC) parliamentary group decided on the 13th of this month to remove Nazim from his position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament. The resolution, submitted to Parliament with the signatures of 73 members, alleges that Nazim abused his official influence for personal gain, incited discord, and actively worked to undermine the integrity of the legislative body.
