A 32-member contingent from the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) is participating in "Exercise Pragati 2024" in Meghalaya, India. This two-week training program focuses on counter-terrorism operations in mountainous and jungle terrain, serving as a platform for international military cooperation and knowledge exchange. Alongside the Maldives and India, personnel from 11 other nations are taking part in the exercise, which features joint strategic planning and specialized tactical drills.

Maldivian military personnel have participated in counter-terrorism operations conducted by the Indian Army across mountainous and jungle terrains.
The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has announced its participation in "Exercise PRAGATI 2026," an Indian military initiative titled "Partnership of Regional Armies for Growth and Transformation in the Indian Ocean Region."
The MNDF stated that the two-week exercise, which commenced on May 20 at the Umroi Military Station in Meghalaya, India, includes participation from India and the Maldives, as well as Bhutan, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam.
The exercise is primarily focused on counter-terrorism operations within mountainous and forested terrains. According to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), the exercise aims to facilitate the exchange of technical expertise and experience while strengthening bilateral military ties. The program will include joint planning exercises, tactical drills, and coordinated operations.
A total of 30 service members and two officers are participating in this exercise, including personnel from the MNDF Special Forces, Special Operations Group, Special Boat Squadron, and the MNDF Marines.
