More than MVR 700,000 was released from the Zakat Fund in April to establish Quran centers across atolls
According to statistics from the Maldives Zakat House, expenditures from the Zakat al-Mal fund rose by 34.8% this April compared to the same period last year, totaling MVR 3.8 million. The majority of these funds were allocated toward medical assistance, support for the poor, and religious and educational initiatives. Notably, while administrative costs were significantly reduced, the fund collected MVR 5.4 million in Zakat al-Mal contributions during the month.

The Maldives Zakat House has reported an increase in expenditures from Zakat al-Mal for the month of April this year.
According to the latest expenditure statistics from the Zakat Fund, a total of MVR 3,811,259.91 was spent in April 2026, compared to MVR 2,828,118.28 during the same period in 2025. The Maldives Zakat House noted that this represents an increase of approximately 34.8 percent.
According to expenditure statistics released by the Zakat House for April 2026, the highest allocations were directed toward aid for the poor and needy, the education sector, Quranic programs, and various social welfare initiatives.
Highlighting an increase in aid distributed to the poor and needy, the Zakat House reported a total expenditure of MVR 1,449,239.39 in April 2024. This includes MVR 182,731 allocated for essential living expenses and MVR 1,266,508.39 provided for medical assistance.
Furthermore, the Maldives Zakat House stated that expenditures under the "Amilun" category—which covers administrative costs and the salaries of staff engaged in Zakat-related work—have been successfully reduced.
In this regard, the agency stated that while 483,077.82 MVR was spent under this category in April 2025, the expenditure was successfully reduced to 195,003.79 MVR in April of this year.
Highlighting significant progress in its "Fi-Sabilillah" (for the sake of Allah) projects, the Maldives Zakat House announced that it has disbursed MVR 290,274.76 to support higher education. Additionally, MVR 1,093,749.47 was allocated to programs for training Hafizes and promoting Quranic knowledge, while MVR 782,992.50 was provided for the construction of Quranic centers across the atolls.
According to statistics from the Zakat House, a total of MVR 5,434,893 was collected as Zakat al-Mal in April 2026. While this represents a 53.8 percent decrease compared to the previous month, it marks an 8.9 percent increase compared to April 2025.
