Attributing creation of MDP to the sacrifices of a single individual is an injustice to everyone else who was involved in that effort: Meekail
Meekail Ahmed Naseem has asserted that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) is not the property of any single individual, noting that attributing the party's foundation to one person undermines the collective sacrifices made by many. Speaking at a press conference for the "Ithubaaru" campaign, Meekail reaffirmed his commitment to remaining with the MDP regardless of the upcoming election results and announced that the campaign's manifesto will be unveiled this Thursday.

Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for South Galolhu and a candidate for the MDP chairmanship, has stated that many individuals made significant sacrifices to bring the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) into existence. He emphasized that suggesting the party was founded through the efforts of a single individual is an injustice to all others who participated in the movement.
Speaking at a press conference held by the "Ithubaaru" campaign at the MDP headquarters on Sunday, Meekail Ahmed Naseem stated that the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) does not belong to a single individual. He further emphasized that the party was not founded by one person alone. However, he noted that the contributions made by those individuals to the party are acknowledged and appreciated with sincere gratitude.
Highlighting several prominent figures, Meekail recognized the contributions of Mohamed Latheef, one of the party’s founders, as well as the advocacy of the mother of Evan Naseem, who was tortured and killed in 2003.
I do not believe that the creation of this party was the sacrifice of a single individual. The system of independent political parties in the Maldives was established through the immense sacrifices of many people. It was through the collective struggle of numerous individuals that political parties gained the opportunity to compete in elections, lead candidates, and establish a firm footing in the political arena.Meekail Ahmed Naseem, the Member of Parliament for the South Galolhu constituency, who is contesting for the position of Chairperson of the MDP.
Meekail stated that claiming the party’s success is the result of a single individual's sacrifice is an insult to the many others who have sacrificed for the cause. He further noted that attributing these efforts to just one person is a profound injustice.
During Sunday's meeting, Meekail also announced that the "Ithubaaru Campaign Manifesto" is set to be launched this coming Thursday.
MP Meekail Ahmed Ahmed expressed his concern over the frequent inquiries from general party members regarding whether representatives will remain with the MDP following election results. He described the prevalence of such questions as regrettable. He further noted that these doubts persist today because the current political climate allows for them, fueled largely by how events have unfolded in the past.
Regardless of the outcome, MP Meekail assured that he would remain a steadfast member of the MDP and committed to serving the party.
