Weather conditions have deteriorated across the Maldives, prompting a white alert for a significant portion of the country.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has issued a white alert spanning from Lhaviyani Atoll to Addu City. The alert was initially in effect from 5:00 am to 10:00 am on Wednesday. However, it has since been extended until 5:00 pm Wednesday evening.
The Maldives Meteorological Service has announced that scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected across the country from 10:00 AM Wednesday to 10:00 AM Thursday, with heavy rainfall likely in some islands.
The national meteorological service stated that winds are expected to prevail from the west and northwest at speeds between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts potentially reaching approximately 40 mph during showers. The department further noted that while seas are generally expected to be slight, they may become moderately rough during squalls, with wave heights ranging between 2 and 5 feet.
Furthermore, the Maldives Meteorological Service reported that GDh. Faresmaathodaa recorded the highest rainfall between 8:00 a.m. Tuesday and 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, with 58.1 millimeters.
