Electricity restored in Hulhumale' Phase 2 after four-hour outage

Electricity has been restored to Hulhumale' Phase 2, four hours after a power outage disrupted the area.

A large area of Hulhumale' Phase 2 experienced a power outage starting at approximately 1:45 PM on Saturday. Electricity was fully restored at around 6:15 PM.

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has announced that the widespread power outage in Hulhumale' Phase 2 was caused by damage to a cable during road construction work conducted by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). According to STELCO, the service disruption in several areas of Phase 2 occurred after a high-voltage cable was damaged during excavation work for the road project.

Although STELCO did not explicitly state that the cables were damaged during road construction work by the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), it is noted that HDC is currently spearheading the road development projects in Hulhumale'. Furthermore, images circulating on social media show HDC employees active at the site where the cable damage occurred.

State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has reported power outages affecting Hiyaa Towers 5, 6, and 7, all 10 Vinares towers, and Aman Dhoadhi towers 12 through 16. Additionally, Aman Udhares towers 5 and 6, along with the MPL towers, are currently without electricity. STELCO has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused to residents due to the service interruption.

There has been a noticeable increase in sudden power outages across Hulhumale' recently. On the 12th of this month, several areas in Hulhumale' Phase 2 experienced a blackout. The outage, which included the Hiyaa Towers, left residents without electricity for a significant portion of the day.
