Reflecting on this year's theme, "AI for Development: Girls Shaping the Digital Future," President Muizzu stated that the government places a high priority on technology, emphasizing that artificial intelligence plays a crucial role in strengthening governance, education, and healthcare systems.
President Muizzu stated that in this developing nation, young women must become the primary drivers of the Maldives' digital transformation.
Furthermore, President Muizzu stated that the involvement of girls in the development of Artificial Intelligence is not merely about their participation in the field, but is also vital for achieving social equality. He added that such inclusion helps bridge the gender gap and ensures equal opportunities for everyone to participate in the evolving landscape of digital development.
Referring to the government's ongoing efforts to empower women in this sector, President Muizzu stated that systemic barriers would be dismantled through the Maldives 2.0 initiative.
President Muizzu stated that efforts will be made to establish a significant presence for women in fields where their participation in ICT has historically been minimal, such as robotics, artificial intelligence, computer programming, and the digital economy. To achieve this, the President emphasized the need to eliminate the gender gap within the digital sector. He highlighted that girls must not only be consumers of technology but must also become productive and empowered leaders within the technological landscape.
President Muizzu has called upon the international community to enhance the participation of young women in the field of Artificial Intelligence development. He further expressed his vision for a world where girls are afforded equal opportunities amidst the rapid global technological advancements.
Despite President Muizzu’s rhetoric, no significant efforts have been made to empower women thus far. Furthermore, there are only three women serving in the current cabinet, and female representation remains minimal within the higher echelons of the administration.
