A 17-year-old girl receiving treatment for dengue fever in M. Muli has passed away, amid revelations that the diagnostic testing kits at the island's regional hospital had expired.
The child who passed away on Thursday night has been identified as Aishath Anjal Mumthaz.
RaajjeMV has learned that the child had been receiving treatment at Muli Regional Hospital since being admitted last Saturday.
A reliable source has revealed that the dengue testing kits at the hospital have expired, and patients are currently being treated without confirmed diagnoses. The source further stated that the Ministry of Health was notified of the situation approximately a week ago. However, the hospital has yet to receive a new supply of testing kits.
Furthermore, he noted that dengue cases are on the rise on the island, pointing out that numerous pits have become breeding grounds for mosquitoes due to stagnant water. He explained that these pits were originally excavated for the foundations of various development projects. He also mentioned that a pit recently dug for the construction of a new police station remains open on the island.
Noting that no efforts are being made to control the mosquito population, he stated that this is a major concern for the public and highlighted a lack of cooperation from public health authorities.
