Government vents frustration on Fenaka Assistant Manager following major defeat in Dhonfanu
The Assistant Manager of Fenaka’s Dhonfanu branch has been suspended following the government’s significant defeat in the island’s local council elections, despite extensive efforts to influence the vote. Although numerous Fenaka and civil service positions were distributed without public advertisement prior to the election, approximately 80 percent of Dhonfanu residents ultimately voted against the government.

Hussain Hafeez, the Assistant Manager of the Fenaka branch in B. Dhonfanu, has been suspended from his post following the government's significant defeat in the local council by-election held on April 18.
An employee at the Fenaka branch in B. Dhonfanu, speaking on condition of anonymity, told RaajjeMV that the government engaged in various activities to influence the elections held on April 4 and the second round of the council elections held in the island on April 18. The employee further reported that individual staff members were threatened with dismissal if the government failed to secure a majority in the island.
Hafeez was reportedly suspended from his post in connection with an ongoing investigation. According to information obtained by RaajjeMV, Hafeez had previously been in charge of managing the Fenaka branch in Dhonfanu, following the suspension of the branch’s station manager. However, prior to Hafeez’s suspension, a new employee was abruptly hired under the title of Head of Department. Management of the Dhonfanu Fenaka office has since been handed over to this newly appointed individual.
However, an official from Fenaka’s head office informed RaajjeMV that, according to the company’s organizational structure, this specific position cannot be established on a small island such as Dhonfanu.
Ahead of the recent local council elections, ten jobs were distributed without any public announcement in B. Dhonfanu—an island with a population of approximately 500—in an apparent attempt to influence the vote. An employee at the Dhonfanu Fenaka office informed RaajjeMV that political influence was also used to fill Civil Service positions during the election period. According to the source, four such positions were granted in the lead-up to the polls.
In the most recent local council elections, the government managed to secure only a single seat in B. Dhonfanu. Furthermore, in the constitutional referendum, 80 percent of the island's residents voted against the government's position. The Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) candidate also emerged victorious in the second round of the election for the seat specifically reserved for women on the Dhonfanu Council.
According to reports, Fenaka’s Deputy Managing Director Adam Thaufeeq spearheaded campaign activities in Dhonfanu, leading a team of company employees to secure support ahead of the vote held on April 18.
