An audio recording has been leaked in which Asma Rasheed, the Member of Parliament for the Central Maafannu constituency, urges individuals not to vote for the PNC candidate until they have been secured a government position.
Asma made these remarks during a conversation with a young man. An audio recording of the exchange is currently circulating on social media.
In the audio, Asma was also heard criticizing the government. Furthermore, she repeatedly urged the youth not to vote for the PNC candidate until a high-ranking position was secured.
Seeking a promotion? Do not lift a single finger until that promotion is secured. Do not step out even once until he grants the promotion. Do not begin any work until you are given a position equivalent to an SPD. Even when they speak to you, demand that you be appointed as a supervisor.Asma Rasheed, MP for Central Maafannu constituency.
Furthermore, she asserted that the current administration has no power to take action against her, nor can they strip her of her parliamentary seat. She added that should her seat be vacated, she would reclaim it with the full backing and support of MDP members.
Furthermore, she stated that her future course of action would be determined by the outcome of the elections scheduled for April 4. She also spoke in a manner that encouraged voters to withhold their support from the PNC candidate.
In the audio recording, MP Asma stated that she had previously facilitated job promotions for several individuals as a means of providing assistance.
Tensions between Asma and President Dr. Muizzu surfaced following her removal from the positions of Chair of the Parliament’s Social Affairs Committee and Chair of the UK-Maldives Friendship Group, reportedly on the President's instructions. The move to dismiss MP Asma came after she began registering constituents who wished to question President Muizzu ahead of a scheduled meeting with the residents of Maafannu.
