A tourist that went missing while off snorkeling from an island resort in Alifu Dhaalu atoll has been found dead near a neighbouring island.

His body was found near Hinnafushi island, in the same atoll, which is uninhabited.

Police began searching for the guest after he was reported missing since he ventured snorkeling.

Officers of the Maldives Police Service said that the disappearance was reported to them at 13:15 on Wednesday.

The police said that they will investigate the matter further.

The 74-year-old tourist had been staying at Thudufushi Beach and Water Villas.
