Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed (Two-Four) has been appointed to the position of Commissioner of Police.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Ali Shujau as the Commissioner of Police. The appointment was made during a ceremony held at the President's Office on Sunday, where he was presented with his letter of appointment.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed joined the Maldives Police Service in 1995.
During his distinguished 30-year career in the police service, he has held several senior leadership positions across various departments within the institution.
His career is distinguished by his leadership across various operational, investigative, administrative, and support departments within the service. Prior to his appointment as Commissioner of Police today, he served as the Head of the Central Investigation Command.
Two-Four is among the commissioned officers dismissed following the enactment of the Police Service Act. The Police Board recommended his removal from the service on August 9, 2021, following allegations of accepting bribes from police funds.
In accordance with that recommendation, Toofoo was dismissed from his position on October 10, 2021.
Despite being the subject of serious corruption allegations, the current administration has reinstated Toofoo to active duty. Furthermore, the government has appointed him to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
This is the third Commissioner of Police to be appointed by the current administration.
The position was first held by Ali Shujau. He resigned following a series of protests in Male’ over allegations of gross police negligence regarding the case of Yumnu Rasheed, who was found dead on a roof after falling from a high-rise building.
Ismail Naveen subsequently assumed the role. However, the position became vacant following his retirement from the post of Commissioner of Police in February.
