Maldives to strengthen ties with additional nations, including Cambodia and African countries, to bolster economic preparedness
Minister Saeed stated that various forms of assistance will be facilitated under the Free Trade Agreement established with China.

Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed has stated that the Maldives is working to strengthen trade ties with additional countries as part of efforts to prepare for potential economic impacts resulting from the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Saeed stated that the government has been working to secure additional markets since its first day in office. He further noted that various forms of assistance would be facilitated under the Free Trade Agreement signed with China.
Saeed stated that the Maldives and China maintain a strong relationship regarding trade-related matters. In this regard, he noted that extensive discussions are currently underway with the Ministry of Commerce of China.
Furthermore, Minister Saeed stated that all types of commodities will be available from China.
We maintain a robust relationship with China, characterized by a profound mutual understanding, particularly within the commercial sector. We are currently engaged in close discussions with the Chinese Ministry of Commerce. Should there be a need to establish specific arrangements for the procurement of goods, such support will be available. Furthermore, Minister Saeed stated that the government is working to strengthen trade relations within the region, specifically with Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. He added that the necessary consultations are currently being conducted through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to achieve this objective.
At the same time, Saeed noted that efforts are underway to initiate trade negotiations with several African nations.
