Former Gemanafushi MP Ilham Ahmed has stated that water, electricity, and fuel prices will be hiked once the referendum outcome aligns with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu’s desired direction.
Speaking on RaajjeTV’s "Noonekey" program, Ilham stated that there can be no stability when rights are being stripped away, noting that citizens are unwilling to surrender the liberties they are entitled to. He further emphasized that to demonstrate this disapproval, the public must vote "no" in the upcoming referendum.
Furthermore, he stated that once the voting concludes in President Muizzu's favor, the prices of water, electricity, and fuel will be increased, adding that the public will no longer be a priority at that stage.
The fundamental question every citizen must first ask is whether they are willing to surrender their power. If you wish to retain that power, you must say no to this. Should President Muizzu secure a victory in this election, water and electricity tariffs will be hiked, and fuel prices will rise. This is a reality that fishermen, too, must carefully consider.Ilham Ahmed, the former Member of Parliament for the Gemanafushi constituency.
Ilham stated that the power to make decisions lies with the people, urging them not to relinquish their inherent authority over political matters. He noted that Maldivian history clearly demonstrates the significant consequences that follow when citizens surrender their power.
