Police have stated that Ahmed Amir, also known as Booga, has failed to present himself for questioning regarding an investigation into allegations of mocking Islam.
The police have summoned Ahmed Amir, 51, of H. Filikurige, Male', to the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building at 16:00 on March 10, 2026. He is being called in for questioning regarding an investigation into allegations of insulting Islam.
When the police issued a public notice for his arrest on February 24, they stated that he had used various social media platforms to insult Islam and disseminate rhetoric aimed at undermining the religious unity of the public. Authorities further noted that he had called for the abolition of the Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
Police stated that they have been unable to serve a summons to the individual as his current whereabouts remain unknown. According to the police, although he was ordered to present himself at the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building on the 10th of this month, he failed to appear.
As police continue to investigate the matter, Amir’s TikTok videos indicate that he resides in Japan and is married to a Japanese national. In his posts, he also mentioned that he travels back to the Maldives on occasion.
Furthermore, on March 6, 2024, the police issued a public notice seeking Hussain Yusuf, 44, of Hiyaleege, N. Kudafari, in connection with an investigation into allegations of insulting Islam. He has been ordered to present himself to the Sergeant Adam Haleem Criminal Investigation Building by 12:00 PM on the 18th of this month.
Issues involving individuals who insult Islam surface from time to time. Authorities have also made arrests in connection with such cases.
