Three individuals arrested for attempting to smuggle over two kilograms of narcotics via air
A Malaysian national and two Maldivians have been remanded in custody following their arrest in connection with an attempt to smuggle narcotics into the Maldives by air. While the foreign national was apprehended at the airport, the two local suspects were later taken into police custody in Male'.

Three individuals have been arrested for attempting to smuggle more than two kilograms of narcotics into the Maldives by air.
They were arrested on February 28, 2026.
The individuals arrested in connection with this case have been identified as Ranjini Jeevananthan, 38, a Malaysian national; Looth Ibrahim, 29, of Furusathu, GDh. Vaadhoo; and Ahmed Rishmah, 21, of Sunlight Villa, GA. Dhaandhoo.
Police announced on Monday that of the three suspects, Ranjini Jeevanantham was apprehended at Velana International Airport, while Looth Ibrahim and Ahmed Rishmah were taken into custody in Male'.
When brought before the court for a remand hearing, Ranjini Jeevananthan and Looth Ibrahim were ordered to be detained for 15 days, while Ahmed Rishmah was remanded for five days.
As police continue their investigation into the matter, Maldives Customs Service announced on Sunday the seizure of 2.2 kilograms of narcotics smuggled into the country by air. Customs officials estimate the street value of the seized drugs to exceed MVR 2.2 million.
