Police launch search for individual accused of mocking Islam
The Maldives Police Service has issued a public summons for Hussain Yusuf, a resident of N. Kudafari, over allegations of insulting Islam and inciting religious discord through the social media platform TikTok. Due to his unknown whereabouts preventing the delivery of a formal summons, authorities have ordered him to report for questioning by March 18, 2025. The investigation centers on accusations of spreading misinformation regarding Islamic principles and attempting to undermine social cohesion and national unity.

The Maldives Police Service has launched a search for an individual accused of mocking Islam on social media platforms.
Police are seeking 44-year-old Hussain Yoosuf in connection with this case. He is a native of Hiyaleege, N. Kudafari.
Police have stated that they are seeking to summon Hussain Yousuf for questioning in an ongoing investigation. He is accused of using the social media platform TikTok to insult and mock Islam, attempt to disrupt the unity of Maldivian citizens, and incite religious discord. He is further alleged to have disseminated misinformation regarding the fundamental principles of Islam.
However, as his current whereabouts remain unknown and summons could not be delivered, the police have issued a public notice for him to present himself for questioning. This notice is issued in accordance with Article 27 of the Regulation on Police Procedures for Investigating Criminal Matters. The police stated that he is being summoned for questioning in connection with an ongoing investigation.
Police have stated that they wish to question him regarding this case, and Sergeant Adam Haleem is required to present himself at the Criminal Investigation Building at 12:00 PM on March 18, 2026.
Cases of individuals insulting Islam surface periodically. Furthermore, arrests have been made in connection with such incidents.
