Male' City Mayoral candidate for the MDP, Adam Azim, has pledged to establish a dedicated support system for the elderly if elected. Under this initiative, the council would provide assistance in transporting senior citizens to parks and facilitating their medical appointments.
He made these remarks while speaking at the ceremony held to unveil the MDP Male' City Manifesto. Azim noted that the absence of elevators in the older flats in Hulhumale' continues to cause significant hardships, particularly for elderly residents.
"We will bring those areas under the council's jurisdiction and improve their management. These enhancements can only be achieved by integrating the Hulhumale municipal system into the council," Azim stated.
Azim highlighted that many elderly citizens are currently confined to their homes for months at a time. He pledged to address this issue and find a sustainable solution.
He warned that if the PNC is voted for in the upcoming council elections, Aasandha services will not be provided in the future. Azim stated that if the PNC wins the council elections, the government will interpret it as a sign of public endorsement for the administration.
"This is the opportunity to demonstrate dissatisfaction with the government. We must make the best use of this opportunity," Azim said.
Furthermore, Azim stated that the Male' City Council was previously notorious for having lost the public's trust. He noted that since taking office during such a challenging period, their efforts have successfully silenced those criticisms. Azim highlighted that as part of the initiatives to strengthen the council's internal governance, they have appointed an independent auditor to review the council's operations and have begun making that information public. Additionally, he pointed out that the current City Council is the first to ever disclose comprehensive data regarding land in Male' City.
