Allegations have surfaced involving the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) promoting Moosa Ali Jaleel, the People's National Congress (PNC) candidate contesting for the position of Male' City Mayor in the upcoming local council elections.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) held a special ceremony on Wednesday to inaugurate the first outdoor gym in Hulhumale' Phase II. The facility, which features 22 different types of exercise equipment, was officially opened by HDC Managing Director Ali Zuhair, who was accompanied by PNC candidate Moosa Ali Jaleel.
Photos of the ceremony have been posted on HDC’s official X account.
The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has faced significant public backlash over the matter. Many have questioned the criteria under which the individual was invited as a special guest to the outdoor gym's opening ceremony. Furthermore, critics have argued that elections cannot be considered fair if state-owned enterprises continue to promote government candidates in such a manner.
The gym has been established on a plot of land adjacent to the turf football ground in Hulhumale' Phase 2. As this location is situated within the Hiyaa Flats residential area, some have alleged that the event was used as a platform to meet with residents and conduct various campaign activities.
In response to inquiries regarding the matter, HDC informed RaajjeMV that the details of the incident remain unclear at this time. The corporation stated it would provide an official comment later on Thursday evening.
