Taxis on Hulhumalé roads
The "DhiRide" mobile application has been launched with the goal of providing a nationwide taxi service across the Maldives.
The app aims to streamline the process for both the general public and drivers, offering a platform for taxi services from any island in the country.
Despite the introduction of this app, it is important to note that traditional methods of hailing a taxi from the roadside remain common in the Maldives.
The developers of "DhiRide" acknowledged that many individuals still spend significant time waiting for taxis manually.
They claim that the app offers a convenient solution, which will especially benefit those in busy areas like Malé City and outlying atolls, where long queues and waiting times for taxis are a regular issue.
The "DhiRide" app enables users to request taxi services anytime, from any island in the Maldives. The app is built using the latest global technology, with a focus on security, speed and reliability.
The creators assert that the app is designed to meet international standards, positioning it to compete with similar services used globally.
Through "DhiRide," users can book taxis, make payments, and even schedule rides for others. The app guarantees the confidentiality of customer phone numbers and includes features such as OTP (One-Time Password) verification for users and live location tracking.
In addition to this, users can pre-schedule rides for specific times.

Beyond the mobile application, services are also accessible via the "DhiRide" website. The app is available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
Managing Director of Wahid General Trading Shifaullah Abdul Wahid highlighted that the app’s primary goal is to make taxi services easily accessible.
He explained that "DhiRide" aims to eliminate the hassle of finding a taxi and end the long waits and queues that people typically endure.
Wahid also highlighted that the app will allow women in local islands to provide motorcycle taxi services.
Further, the app will display the entire Maldives taxi network on users' phones, eliminating the need to contact individual operators of island buggies, cars, or pickups.
