MPs Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Mohamed Ameeth, Saud Hussain and Abdul Latheef Mohamed held a press conference on Saturday

While the Elections Commission (EC) has declared that MPs Mohamed Waheed Ibrahim, Mohamed Ameeth, Saud Hussain and Abdul Latheef Mohamed have lost their parliamentary seats, the parliamentarians have said that they will continue to attend parliament sittings.

The MPs- Thulusdhoo MP Waheed, Maduvvari MP Ameeth, Villingilli MP Saud and Dhihdhoo MP Latheef- made the announcement at a press conference on Saturday, highlighting that the Supreme Court's verdict clearly states that they have not lost their seats.

Hence, they said that they will continue to attend parliament sittings, despite the EC's decision.

They noted that none of the institutions have informed them of the decision to strip them of their parliament seats, including the Parliament administration.

The parliament is currently on recess, with the sessions set to resume within the first week of October for its last session this year.

EC had, back in July, announced that the parliamentarians had lost their seats, following a controversial Supreme Court ruling, imposing a floor-crossing ban.

The MPs had filed a case at the Supreme Court asking to review EC's decision, that had led to more confusion than answers.
