Through a grid-tied solar power system, the event achieved a complete offset of its electricity usage, underscoring Dhiraagu’s continued focus on sustainability, innovation and community impact.
The solar installation generated 1,040 kWh of clean energy during the event, equivalent to preventing approximately 645 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions.

This achievement highlights how the integration of technology and sustainability can significantly reduce environmental impact while maintaining the scale and excitement of major national events.
Following the race, the solar panels used will be redeployed across Dhiraagu’s ongoing renewable energy projects, extending their use and contribution to the company’s green initiatives.

Currently, Dhiraagu operates solar installations on 95 islands, generating about 19 percent of its total energy from renewable sources and cutting roughly 2,053 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
In addition to its clean energy transition, DMRR has promoted sustainable practices since 2019 by eliminating single-use plastics.
The event provides refillable water stations along the race route, helping to prevent an estimated 18,000 plastic bottles from entering the ocean each year.
These efforts reflect Dhiraagu’s broader commitment to environmental responsibility, resource efficiency, and supporting the Maldives’ shift toward renewable energy and reduced carbon emissions.
