Dhiraagu partners with MNU for E-Waste Hackathon 2025

Dhiraagu has joined forces with the Maldives National University (MNU) to support the upcoming E-Waste Hackathon 2025, a youth-focused initiative aimed at addressing the growing problem of electronic waste in the Maldives.

Scheduled to take place from September 28 to October 7 at MNU, the hackathon will gather students, young creators, and environmental advocates to develop innovative and scalable solutions for managing and reducing e-waste. The event is targeted at high school, college, and university students, with the goal of encouraging environmental responsibility and nurturing innovation among the country’s youth.

Electronic waste, which includes discarded items such as computers, mobile phones, televisions, refrigerators, batteries, and other electronic devices has become an increasingly urgent environmental concern. This hackathon aims to raise awareness of the issue while challenging young minds to design impactful solutions.

Held under the theme "Innovating for a Circular Economy: Tackling the E-Waste Crisis", participants will explore areas such as e-waste collection, upcycling, recycling efficiency, and sustainable disposal practices. Over the course of the week, they will engage in workshops led by experts in sustainability, waste management, and innovation, as well as receive mentorship to guide the development of their proposed solutions.

The programme will also include site visits to waste management and recycling facilities to provide participants with practical insights into current processes and challenges. Final concepts and prototypes will be presented to a judging panel at the end of the hackathon.

Registration for the event is open until 25 September 2025, and interested participants can apply through the official registration form at: https://forms.gle/ZXKK3kCpzvEf6yR17

Through this partnership, Dhiraagu continues its commitment to empowering youth and promoting sustainability through digital innovation.
