A formal complaint has been lodged at ACC regarding illegal use of NSPA funds to establish MMTV
Opposition raises concerns over ACC's inaction on multiple corruption complaints against the current administration

Former MP for Central Henveiru constituency Ali Azim, has accused President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu of systematically engaging in corruption and misappropriation of state resources throughout his political career. His remarks came during a press briefing on the submission of a formal complaint to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), urging an immediate investigation into claims that state-run NSPA funds were illegally used to establish MMTV.

Azim expressed serious doubts about the independence of oversight institutions, claiming they disproportionately pursue cases involving former administrations or politically weak individuals, while turning a blind eye to current abuses of power. He alleged that Muizzu’s corrupt practices date back to his previous roles as a government minister and as Mayor of Malé City, where numerous instances of financial misconduct reportedly took place.

According to Azim, these alleged acts of theft and misuse of public funds have only escalated since Muizzu assumed the presidency. He emphasized that government ministries, the city council, and relevant agencies must take responsibility for investigating and forwarding these matters to the appropriate authorities.

Despite multiple corruption complaints filed by opposition figures and private citizens, including several lodged by the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), there is growing public concern over ACC’s inaction. Many continue to question whether genuine accountability is possible under the current administration.
