From landslide support to outrage: Gadhdhoo residents tell Muizzu “enough is enough!”
Residents who campaigned for Muizzu express frustration that no new projects have been completed in two years
Community members feel their support has been ignored with unfulfilled promises, leading some to call for removing the current administration from power
Residents say only previous government initiatives are visible

The people of Gadhdhoo island in Gaaf Dhaal atoll, who delivered the largest majority to elect President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, say they have lost hope in the current government.

The team behind privately-run television station RaajjeTV’s popular ‘Haalu Kihinei’ programme visited the island and spoke with residents recently, including those who worked on the frontline to bring the current administration to power. Their frustration was evident, and despair was visible on the faces of every citizen interviewed.

Madey, who played a significant role in the presidential campaign, said the only projects visible on the island are those initiated by the previous government, including road asphalting and the construction of a new powerhouse building. He said those projects were not fully completed, yet nothing has moved forward in the two years since this government took office.

Madey stated that Gadhdhoo gave Muizzu the largest majority in Huvadhoo atoll. He added that repeated lies have pushed him to the point of withdrawing his support, as none of the promises made to the island have been fulfilled.

Neela, another resident, said the people of Gadhdhoo are deeply unhappy with the current situation. She said the island’s residents helped elect this government with high expectations, but the administration has not acknowledged their efforts. She stressed that they were not entrusted with even the smallest responsibilities.

Neela said the solution is for the people to come out and remove the incumbent from power. She added that there is not a single place on Gadhdhoo that the president could visit and inaugurate.
