Five employees from the Fenaka Corporation branch in Bandidhoo island of Dhaal atoll, have been abruptly terminated from their positions under highly questionable circumstances.
According to reliable sources, the dismissals followed pressure for the employees to join the ruling People's National Congress (PNC). The affected individuals were reportedly offered the opportunity to retain their jobs on the condition that they register with the government-aligned party. Upon refusing, they were summarily dismissed.
It is alleged that senior figures within the PNC’s Bandidhoo Steering Committee had repeatedly warned employees that failure to align politically would jeopardize their job security and chances of permanent employment.
The timing of the dismissals has raised further concerns. Just one week prior to the terminations, Fenaka had recruited 11 new staff members in Bandidhoo, and plans are reportedly underway to hire an additional 17 individuals. These developments suggest that the vacant positions are being strategically redistributed, potentially to politically favored individuals.
Notably, the five dismissed employees had previously faced termination under similar circumstances but were later reinstated after the company claimed the initial decision had been a mistake. The recurrence of their dismissal now casts serious doubt on the legitimacy of that explanation and reinforces suspicions of political retaliation.
As of now, Fenaka’s Bandidhoo branch has not issued any official statement addressing the dismissals or the broader allegations of political interference in employment decisions.
The incident adds to growing concerns about politicization within state-owned enterprises and the misuse of public sector jobs as tools for political control.
